Topic: Common User Environment Shell
Date Received: April 13, 2007

Disclaimer - My comments are based on conditions that existed a year or so back.

It would be very helpful to have a common user environment shell that provides very similar capabilities across the centers. This would include utilities to transfer files from user space at one center to another, script for parallel code execution, etc.

Centers: I am basing my comments on my experiences at NAVO, ARL and Maui.

The Baseline Configuration (BC) team received from you on April 13, 2007 a request for a common user environment shell including capabilities such as:

  • Utilities to transfer files from user space at one center to another,
  • Script for parallel code execution.

In an e-mail dated April 16, 2007, a BC team member informed you that we have already established a common name space for HPCMP Kerberos and SSH command set to enable users to scp and krcp across centers. Also, the BC team member brought to your attention an HPCMP initiative called ezHPC to provide users a Web GUI for access to HPCMP resources.

The BC team is very keen to know if we have addressed all your needs. If not, please provide us with more details and information to help us address your valued needs in the immediate future.
